Wore it to Sunday roast and just sat down and started carving like nothing was happening. My nan looked at me for a full ten seconds, said nothing at all, then quietly asked if I was feeling alright. My dad had to leave the room.
nobody breaks character
Anyone can put on a pig nose. That is not the bit. The bit is putting on a pig nose and then carrying on completely as normal â passing the potatoes, asking about someone's job, answering the phone â with a snout on your face and absolutely nothing in your expression that acknowledges it.
The first person to laugh loses. That is the only rule, and it is a rule that has never once survived a full course of a meal. Someone always goes. Usually it is whoever was most confident they would not.
the family photo gets ruined, permanently
Here is what actually happens. You take the nice photo. Everyone is smiling properly, hair sorted, nobody blinking. Then somebody says take one more, and by the time the shutter goes there are four snouts in the frame and one very confused grandparent.
Guess which one gets printed. Guess which one ends up on the fridge, in the frame in the hallway, in the slideshow at somebody's wedding fifteen years later. It is never the nice one. It is never going to be the nice one.
what you are actually buying
It is a small moulded latex pig nose in a warm flesh tone, with the ridges across the bridge and two big open nostril holes. It sits over your own nose and covers it completely, and because the nostrils are open you breathe and talk through it perfectly normally. It is light enough that you forget it is on, which is exactly how you end up answering the door in it.
A thin white elastic band goes around the back of your head to hold it in place. The loop is a fixed length rather than a slider, so it is generously sized for an adult and most people tie a small knot in it to take it in for a child. Packs of one, two or five â the five is how you get a whole table in on it at once, which is the version everybody eventually wishes they had bought.
the honest bit
This is made of natural latex. If anyone at your table has a latex allergy or sensitivity, this is not the one for them â please check before you hand five of these around. A brand new snout also has a bit of a rubbery smell for the first day; leave it out of the packet for a few hours and it settles right down.
It is a novelty party gag and nothing more. It is not a respirator, not a medical mask, not protective equipment of any kind, and it does not filter anything at all. And because it is held on with an elastic band that goes around the head, please keep an eye on younger children while they are wearing it, and take it off them before naps or bed. Silly is the entire point. A trip to A&E is not.

Wore it to Sunday roast and just sat down and started carving like nothing was happening. My nan looked at me for a full ten seconds, said nothing at all, then quietly asked if I was feeling alright. My dad had to leave the room.

My genuine worry was that it would fall off the second anyone actually laughed. It does not. I was properly wheezing, head back, and it stayed put on my nose the whole time. The nostril holes are big enough that you can talk normally through it too.

Honest note for bigger heads: my husband is a large bloke and the elastic sits tight on him, left a faint line across the back of his head after about twenty minutes. Fine on me and fine on both kids. Knocking half a star off for that, he still wore it all evening.

Got the 5 pack for Christmas dinner and it covered the whole table â me, my sister, both parents and my brother-in-law. Five snouts, one very normal conversation about parking. My sister lasted the longest. It was not close.

It photographs far better than I expected. In the actual room you can tell straight away it is rubber, but on a phone screen the ridges and the shadow in the nostrils read as an actual snout. The elastic mostly disappears into your hair in photos.

Be aware the elastic is a fixed loop, there is no slider or toggle to adjust it. It was loose on my six year old so I tied a knot in the back and that sorted it in about four seconds. Would have been five stars with a proper adjuster on it.

Bought two packs of five as party bag fillers for my daughter's seventh birthday. Ten kids, ten snouts, and they refused to take them off for the entire party including during the cake. Cheapest thing at that party and comfortably the biggest hit.

Kept it on for a Monday morning video call and said nothing about it. Ran through my whole update deadpan. Two people had their cameras off and missed it entirely, which honestly made it funnier when they came back on.

The photographer at my cousin's engagement do got one shot of the four of us in these. That picture is now in a frame in my aunt's hallway, next to the actual proper portrait. She says she prefers it. The real one has not been mentioned since.

Softer than I thought it would be â it is a squishy latex rather than a hard plastic shell, so it does not dig in anywhere across the bridge of your nose. Smelled a bit rubbery out of the packet, left it on the windowsill overnight and it was gone by morning.
