Wore the brown one to my brother-in-law's 40th and just stood at the end of the garden not moving. He noticed after about ninety seconds, said my name twice, then genuinely shouted. Four people have asked me where I got it.
he does not react. ever.
Someone screams. Someone drops a mug. Someone says your actual full name in the voice their mother used. And the horse just stands there. Long face. Glassy eyes. Absolutely nothing behind them.
That is the whole joke and it is undefeated. You do not have to be funny, you do not have to say a word, you do not have to do a bit. You simply have to not move. The less you do, the worse it gets for everyone else in the room.
the single funniest $25 you will spend
A horse head reads instantly at any size, in any light, on any phone screen. No caption needed, no setup, no explanation. It is a person, and their head is a horse. The joke has already landed before anyone finished scrolling past it.
People buy it for one specific prank and then it never goes back in the box. It turns up in the Christmas photo, in the background of a wedding video, in a passport-style selfie sent at 11pm for no reason at all.
what you are actually buying
It is a soft moulded latex pullover that goes over your entire head and sits down past the neck, so there is no gap and no chin poking out. The long muzzle, the upright ears and the shaggy mane are all part of the piece. One size fits most adults and it stretches comfortably over a normal head of hair.
The eyes are solid and glassy from the outside â you are not looking through them. You see out through the openings at the mouth and nostrils, which gives you a clear view of what is directly in front of you. Three colourways: brown, white and black. Brown is the famous one.
the honest bit
This is natural latex, so if you have a latex allergy or sensitivity this is not the product for you â please skip it. A brand new mask also has a strong rubbery smell for the first day or two. Air it out somewhere for a few hours before you plan to wear it and it settles down a lot.
It gets hot in there. Fifteen to twenty minutes in and it is genuinely warm and humid, so take it off between appearances and do not wear it for hours at a stretch. Peripheral vision is limited to what is straight ahead of you, which means: do not drive in it, do not cycle in it, do not go near stairs at speed, and do not sneak up on anyone holding something hot or sharp. Deadpan is funny. A trip to A&E is not.

It goes on over my glasses, which was my one worry. They sit slightly squashed against my face and steam up after a while, but they stay on and I can still see. I have a fairly big head and it stretched over fine.

Honest review: after about twenty minutes it is genuinely hot and damp in there and I had to take it off. The gaps you actually see through at the mouth and nose are small, so you get a letterbox view and no side vision at all. Still worth it, just know that going in.

Straight out of the packet it smells strongly of new rubber, like a bike inner tube. I hung it on the balcony overnight and by the next morning it was almost gone. Worth doing before you wear it near your face for any length of time.

Groomsmen made me wear it for one photo at the reception. The photographer could not get through the shot because she was laughing. It is now the picture the bride has framed in her hallway instead of the proper one.

Did the school run in it. Stood at the gate completely still. My nine year old walked straight past me on purpose and pretended she had never seen me before in her life. Three other parents asked for the link.

Got the black one expecting it to be the spookiest and it is more of a very dark grey under normal room lighting. Looks great in photos, slightly less dramatic in person. The mane shed a couple of loose strands the first day and then stopped.

You really do see out of the mouth, which sounds mad until you put it on. It is enough to walk around a room and find a doorway without groping the walls. I would not carry a full plate across the kitchen in it though.

Put it on in the living room and our labrador lost his entire mind, barked at me for a solid minute, then sat down and leaned on my leg like nothing had happened. My wife has not fully forgiven either of us.

Bought three for the office secret santa, one brown, one white, one black. All three wore them into the Monday stand-up and said nothing for the entire meeting. Our manager finished the whole agenda anyway. Best eighteen dollars each I have spent.
